The team at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service understands the difficulty of planning after a loved one’s death. The library has a cozy fireplace, and a large, comfortable gathering room includes a big bay window, sofa and chairs. It’s our hope to create a welcoming atmosphere where you can plan a memorable memorial and spend time with family and friends to reminisce and begin to heal.

Though traditional religious funeral services remain a popular option, we recognize that you may prefer a contemporary and upbeat Celebration of Life ceremony instead. Our attentive funeral directors and funeral celebrants specialize in creating custom memorials that truly speak to the lives of individuals. You can inspire us with a memory of your loved one, a hobby that grew into a passion, a favorite music genre or a portfolio of hand-created art, and we will work to gracefully incorporate as many personal elements as you would like into the service.

Want an afternoon ice cream social? Or maybe an evening wine and cheese gathering is a better fit. Were you thinking perhaps a guitar player, the best barbecue in Charlotte and jars of special-recipe sauce as as mementos? If you can imagine it, we can most likely make it happen.

We also help families secure ministers and organists for both funerals and graveside services.

From a direct cremation without a service or a witness to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common decision.

For families who choose the time-honored tradition of cremation, our full-service funeral home has a private crematory on the property. This gives Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service complete control of a cremation from start to finish and means your loved one never leaves our care. If desired, cremated remains may be buried at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

Forest Lawn West Cemetery

Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte encompasses more than 100 acres of rolling hills and wooded areas. A pastoral setting with upright granite monuments, as well as lawn crypts and flush granite and bronze memorials, the cemetery is a beautiful final resting place. The property includes 5 communal mausoleums, as well as private mausoleums and private estates. Glass-front niches for cremated remains are now available in the indoor mausoleum.

It’s our honor to help military families and veterans plan a funeral or memorial service that celebrates a life of dignified service.

Although space is available throughout the cemetery for veterans, a designated veterans section showcases a large memorial honoring our nation’s servicemen and servicewomen. In 2019, the cemetery partnered with Wreaths Across America with the goal of placing a wreath on every veteran’s grave on our property in 2020 and beyond.

History

Forest Lawn West Cemetery was founded in 1935. Shortly thereafter, construction began on the mausoleum, which was completed in 1937. Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service opened on the property in 2007.

Today, both the funeral home and cemetery are members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, continuing our legacy of care for Charlotte families.
